Mental Health Counselors (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors, Associates, and Supervisors)

In North Carolina, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (LCMHCs) play a vital role in promoting the psychological well-being of individuals, families and communities by providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions through evidence-based counseling practices. LCMHCs and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associates (LCMHCAs) are licensed and regulated by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (NCBLCMHC). There were 9,205 LCMHCs and 3,075 LCMHCAs in active practice in North Carolina in 2024.
